What is Dandruff?
First of all let us see what is referred to as dandruff. This is an abnormal condition of the scalp where the skin is itchy and dead cells appear to pile up and becomes flaky and while combing of the hair, the flakes tends to fall over to your shoulders. This condition is medically called seborrheic dermatitis. It is a natural process of the skin to shed the old cells, but due to some imbalance in the metabolism, the cells are divided in a very rapid rate and these cells grow faster on the scalp and are shed frequently. These cells clump together and become dandruff.
This can be an embarrassing situation and making one less confident and also the itching could become really bothersome.
The exact cause of the eruption of dandruff is not yet known. It is believed that dandruff is caused by a fungus called Malassezia.
There are some contributing factors and it could be varied from one person to another. The most effective dandruff control therapy is to apply fenugreek paste. Soak two table spoonful fenugreek in water overnight and blend it on a blender and apply on your hair and scalp. Let it remain for 20 minutes and then wash off with tap water. Do this on alternate days for one to two weeks. You will see the result from the day #1.
Black pepper is said to have properties to promote hair growth and destroy the funguses and bacteria in the scalp. Crushed black pepper stems were used to clean the hair in India.
Applying lime juice, aloe vera juice or gel, or goose berry juice also helps ease the condition.

Essential oil, rose mary can be added to one or two teaspoon full of olive oil and applying to the scalp also seem to help.
Sandal wood paste mixed with lemon juice can be applied to the scalp which will soothe and cool the scalp and brings back the balance of the scalp.
Curry leaves grinded and mixed with curd and having it orally is a grandma’s recipe for hair health. This has been found to be a good remedy for dandruff problem.
If you have dandruff, while combing your hair you need to take care that dandruff flakes does not fly off to your moustache or eyebrows. Keeping the comb well cleaned and hygienic would help staying away from the condition recurring.
Dandruff is contagious and it is good to maintain your bathing towel, hair brushes etc. hygienically and also avoid sharing them with anyone else.
Antidandruff shampoos have chemicals which could make things worse or affect the hair adversely.
